Beaver Run Resort and
Conference Center
About Breckenridge:
Founded almost 140 years
ago, the town of Breckenridge began as a mining
camp filled with pioneers dreaming of the promise
of gold and silver. After almost a decade of mining
booms and busts, the town was revitalized by a
group of investors from Wichita, Kansas. From
World War II until the early 1960's, Breckenridge
stood as a venerable ghost town, yet much of its
charming Victorian heritage was preserved as is
evident by the fact that 250 original structures
serve as the towns shops, restaurants and pubs.
In fact, Breckenridge is Colorado's largest National
Historic District. Today, the town is a haven
for skiers, hikers, bikers and nature lovers alike,
a virtual playground for all.

Altitude Tips: As Beaver
Run recommends: Above 5000 feet you may experience
a faster heartbeat and an increase in your rate
of breathing due to lower oxygen levels. Although
his is normal, for the first two or three days
you may experience dizziness, headaches, nasal
congestion, fatigue nausea and sleeping difficulties.
This is merely the body1s response to the altitude.
Some tips: DRINK MORE WATER than usual, take it
easy on physical activity for the first few days.
Eat high- carbohydrate foods. Minimize your intake
of alcohol, caffeine and salty foods and if possible,
stay at 5000 feet for a day or two before venturing
higher.
Personal
Commentary By Laurie Markus
The first thing
to do in Breckenridge Colorado is take a deep
breath of crisp mountain air and try to recall
the last time you1ve enjoyed such a rich sensation.
Located at 9,600 feet in the mountains of the
great divide, the Rocky Mountain town of Breckenridge,
Colorado will remind you that even adults need
their time to relax and play. As a city girl coming
from Miami, Breckenridge was a special treat.
It had been a while since I1d seen a small hill,
let alone mountains as imposing as the Rockies.
We rented a car in Denver and took in every second
of breathtaking scenery as we wound our way to
the small town of Breckenridge. The panoramic
views were exhilarating and the air was cleansing,
fresh and still. The town is small and beautifully
quaint, but can honestly provide for any type
of vacationer, whether you like to ski, hike,
bike, shop or simply commune with nature.
